Australian police said Friday that eight children were killed and the woman was stabbed to death during what she called the media to "mass stabbing incident" in the city of Cairns in the north of the country.
Queensland state police said in a statement that it has moved to a house in the suburb "Manora" in Cairns after reports of the existence of an injured woman who was seriously injured in the building.
Police found the bodies of children aged between 18 months and 15 years during the examination of the place.
Police confirmed that it was not immediately clear whether children from one family, or their relationship to the affected women, who continue to question her.
