Violent clashes in Greece on the anniversary of the student uprising

Greek police clashed with masked youths in the capital Athens on Friday after thousands of Greeks marched through the capital on the anniversary of a bloody 1973 student uprising against the military junta that ruled the country at the time.

More than 10,000 people marched peacefully to the United States embassy, which some protesters accuse of supporting the seven-year military rule. Authorities deployed about 5,000 policemen in the streets of central Athens.
